The Lady Eagles advanced to face top-seeded Brentwood in the district semifinals with a 25-19, 25-22, 26-24 sweep of host Franklin. The two teams split five-set matches in the regular season. The Lady Rebels had pulled in front 23-21 on back-to-back kills from Jillian Amsler and Julie Keener, but a Franklin serving error paired with a Annie Cornay kill knotted the set at 23-23. Independence clinched the match with back-to-back blocks from senior middle blocker Emma Copps. Independence will face Brentwood at 4:30 p.m. Thursday at Franklin High School. The winner plays the Summit-Ravenwood winner Thursday night for the district title. The Lady Rebels, which didn't win a district contest last season, closed 4-8 this season. Keener finished with 12 kills and nine digs for Franklin Wednesday, while Amsler tallied nine kills.
